Nigeria’s Amusan shines in Tennessee


Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has continued her impressive run from 2016 after opening her 2017 Athletics season on a good note at the Commodore Invitational held last weekend in Nashville, Tennessee.

The University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) Sophomore clocked a time of 8:19s to win the 60m Hurdles ahead of Louisiana State University’s (LSU) duo of Brittley Humphrey (8.34s) and Tonea Marshall(8.36s).

Amusan had earlier won her heat in a Season’s Best of 8.18s and was followed by Brittany Kelly(8.6s) Raven Stewart of Georgia Tech(8.71s) and teammate Rebecca Oshinbanjo.

The African Games Champion also ran in the 200m where she won her heat in an SB of 24.03s fining in 5th place overall rankings.

Jennifer Edobi is another Nigerian who was in action at the Commodore Invitational last weekend. The Vanderbilt junior won the women’s 400m in  a SB of 53;99swhile LSU’s pair of Travia Jones and Jada Martin  followed by 54.00s and 54.01s respectively. Ada Benjamin was 4th in 54.26s.

Meanwhile, former African Youths Athletics Championship (AYAC) long Jump Bronze  medalist, David Ejumeta placed 4th in the Long Jump  event at the Nebraska Holiday INN Invitational. The IOWA Western freshman made a leap of 6.98m as Okllahoma State’s Jacob Fincham  Dukes won the event in 7;40m.
